"Mr. Robot" season 2 won't hit the small screen until July. Details about the season are scarce so fans are left to guess what will happen to Elliot after the shocking and twist-laden first season.

Production is underway for the highly anticipated second season of the show. It started back in March. While plot spoilers are difficult to come by, the cast members of the USA Network hit have been updating fans in social media.

During the 30th day of filming, "Mr. Robot" creator Sam Esmail shared a photo of lead actor Rami Malik and Frankie Shaw, whose character in the series – drug dealer Shayla – was killed off in the first season.

The fact that the star was on set has many believing that Shayla will be in "Mr. Robot" season 2 in some way or form. It will surely be insane if she came back from the grave, but this won't likely be the case.

Instead, media outlets are willing to bet that her potential return will be via flashback, a scene that will give fans more insight into Elliot's mysterious past.

"Mr. Robot" season 2 will further explore the mind of Elliot. In the first season, it was revealed that Mr. Robot is just a figment of his imagination. In the new season, Esmail wishes to tell the story following the hacker's shocking realization.

"Now that Elliot is aware [of the truth about Mr. Robot], that has opened the door. We're literally externalizing Elliot's mentality and his inner conflict, Mr. Robot being the other half of Elliot," Esmail told Entertainment Weekly.

"In the first season, because Elliot wasn't aware, there was a mystery about who Mr. Robot was and what his real motivations were. Now we know, so what does that mean? What does Elliot really want?" he added.

"Mr. Robot" season 2 premieres July 13 on USA Network.
