Microsoft Surface Pro 4 to be available in different sizes

Will Microsoft Surface Pro 4 look exactly like the Surface Pro 3?

New rumors say that Microsoft will unveil the Surface Pro 4 this fall alongside its new operating system, Windows 10. There are also speculations indicating that the upcoming tablet-laptop hybrid will be available in different sizes.

The current Microsoft Surface Pro 3 boasts a 12.2-inch screen display, while its successor will reportedly have 8- and 14- inch variants. Being available in multiple sizes can be an advantage for the manufacturer since it will be able to cater to different segments of the market.  The upcoming device is also rumored to feature Intel Core M chips or the upcoming Broadwell processors paired with more than 8 GB of RAM.

The current Surface Pro 3 model has parts similar to the Surface Pro 2 — they have similar internal processors and operating system — but the former has become more popular than the other. The two devices come with the Windows 8 OS, which some users allegedly do not think works well on tablets. The upcoming Windows 10 OS, which will reportedly be included in the Surface Pro 4, will improve the combination of tablet and laptop functions and it will make the performance of the device more stable.

Meanwhile, rumor has it that Apple and some Android-based manufacturers are planning to release their own tablet-laptop hybrids.  However, Microsoft's tablet hybrids offer something that others do not: apps that run on both desktops and tablets. This advantage is not offered even by Apple. What the Cupertino-based company offers is an integration of iOS and OS X operating systems.  Neither iOS nor Android currently runs desktop apps, which could be a disadvantage for the two.

Microsoft will be hosting a preview event this January to give out more details about Windows 10.  As for the Surface Pro 4, it's perhaps still too early for the company to announce anything, but introducing it at the launch event of Windows 10 this fall will surely gain it attention.
