"Girls" creator Lena Dunham and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff call it quits after five years together.

The couple, who started dating back in 2012, reportedly mutually decided to end their relationship last December.

"Jack and Lena were growing apart and it just made sense for them to end their relationship where it was," a source told E! News.

The insider added that there is no bad blood between the pair, saying "They want the best for each other no matter what. They are both moving on."

Following the announcement of their breakup, the 31-year-old actress took to Instagram to keep the positivity alive. "Starting over is the beautiful moment where you choose yourself," she said in the post. She captioned it, "forever love."

In a live Instagram video, Dunham showed off the large silver ring earlier given to her by Antonoff, and explained why she would keep on wearing it.

"I'll always wear it, because love is a really cool, powerful, eternal thing," she told her over three million followers. "It doesn't have to be defined the way that we in Western culture define as beginnings and ends... you're a drop of water and then you re-enter the ocean."

Dunham was spotted out on Monday for the first time since their breakup was confirmed. She was photographed in Los Angeles getting a much-needed hug from a friend.

Dunham and Antonoff met on a blind date in 2012, after being set up by the guitarist's friend, comedian Mike Birbiglia. In an interview with the New York Magazine in 2014, the 33-year-old musician talked about their instant chemistry and how he was not able to hold anything back from the start.

Antonoff said he immediately told Dunham everything about him, including his young love with highschool sweetheart Scarlett Johansson, explaining that is how it is "when you really like someone."
