'The Incredibles 2' movie to come out before 'Cars 3'

The Incredibles Disney/Pixar

Finally, after more than a decade, production of the much-awaited "The Incredibles 2" is moving along. What was once just a plan is finally coming to life, and writer and director Brad Bird has dished out details on the progress of the highly-anticipated sequel.

"I have the story arc. I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it," Bird told Collider.

Now, it looks like the entire movie will be ready before the announced "Cars 3" movie. The filmmaker said during the interview that "The Incredibles 2" was supposed to come out after the new "Cars" film but "our wheels just happened to click a little earlier so they moved us up. Release dates are a little fluid when you're making films so far in advance."

There is still no definite release date for the film, but according to Cinema Blend, Pixar has already pegged June 15, 2018 for a film. It is unclear, however, if this is the date when the new "The Incredibles" story will hit the silver screen.

Bird did not talk about the plot of the follow-up. He did, however, touch on his efforts in making the film stand out from the pool of superhero films. He recalled that when the original film was released in 2004, there were only two other superhero franchises – "X-Men" and "Spider-Man." But now, there are just too many of them.

So what he plans to do about this is simply to steer clear of these movies' turf and "keep it focused in the area that our film was." Bird said he will continue to zero in on the characters and their relationships and from there, find bigger potentials.

"The Incredibles 2" will mark the return of the adorable family of five, each member possessing a unique set of powers that allow them to protect their city.
