'Gravity Falls' season 3 happening or not? Alex Hirsch hints at future 'Gravity Falls' projects

It was announced last month that the Disney animated series "Gravity Falls" will not be renewed for another season. This news came from creator Alex Hirsch himself, who posted on Tumblr the bad news.

"There's no easy way to say it so I'm just going to say it: 'Gravity Falls' is coming to an end," Hirsch wrote. This left so many fans heartbroken, but it isn't totally over for the mystery series yet, because its season 2 finale episode "Weirdmageddon III" will air sometime next year and Hirsch confirmed it will be an hour-long episode. This means fans will get to see the last of Mabel and Dipper's adventures.

The good news for the show is that it wasn't cancelled, as Hirsch stated in the blog post. The series simply reached its endpoint and there are no more stories to tell. "Gravity Falls was never meant to be a series that goes on and on forever," explained Hirsch.

While it is already confirmed that a third season won't be happening, it is possible that there will be other projects involving "Gravity Falls," as hinted by the creator.

"Will every single conceivable question ever thought of about Gravity Falls be answered in the end? Of course not. But that just leaves some material for any potential 'Gravity Falls' projects in the future," Hirsch continued.

Hirsch also wrote that although the story has come to an end, it won't be the last time fans will get to see Mabel, Dipper, and Stan. Could this mean that a spin-off series is also in the cards?

Only time will tell, but as of the moment, fans should look forward to the last episode of the season before saying an emotional goodbye to the well-loved series.

Things are bound to get exciting when "Weirdmageddon III" airs, and it was previously revealed by Hirsch that one character will not make it. A release date for the finale episode has yet to be announced.
