'GTA 6' release date, latest rumors: Rockstar Games a no-show at PlayStation Meeting

Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online are still milking cows for Take Two Interactive even after three years. Rockstar Games

"Grand Theft Auto" fans were hoping to hear something official about the highly speculated about and highly anticipated "GTA 6" during the recently concluded PlayStation Meeting. However, developer Rockstar Games failed to show up at the event.

It was highly expected that the studio would be at Sony's event. The hype started last month when a user named Tidux posted on Twitter a guitar and a star Emoji, along with the caption "#PSM." Fans took it as a tip suggesting that Rockstar will be at the PlayStation Meet. Though "GTA 6" is still not a confirmed game, fans are looking forward to hearing something about it officially. Many believe that the time is ripe for a new "GTA" game since it has been three years since the last game was released.

Rumors suggest that the game could arrive sometime in 2018 at the earliest and 2020 at the latest. It is also highly regarded that the studio may opt to have an overseas map for a change, particularly the city of London. The developers might also think that it is the proper time for a female protagonist to be included in the game. It was even talked about that Eva Mendes could voice the lead, while Ryan Gosling will take her male counterpart. Tokyo was even mentioned before.

If Rockstar still wants to stay within the North American continent, the U.S. city of San Diego is highly regarded to be a decent location. The city of Houston and Chicago are possibilities too. It could also be another city that has not been used in the franchise.

However, even if the current game is three years old, "GTA V" and "GTA Online" are still considered to be milking cows for Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar. The game is still quite popular, and the developer continues to add new content to keep things fresh. A single player DLC is even expected to be released soon, according to a report from Tech News Today.

Rockstar is keeping mum with regards to its unannounced projects. Fans are hoping that "GTA 6" is one that they would have a chance to see in the future.
