'Five Nights at Freddy's' movie release date: Film to release June 2018? Script not yet finished

Details about the highly anticipated "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie may be difficult to come by, but that does not mean that the project has been scrapped.

Fans started to worry that the project has been dismissed, but movie director Gil Kenan clarified on Twitter that the film, which was first announced April last year, is not cancelled and is "just in the very long script development phase."

He assured that they are "still working on it." Scott Cawthon, the man behind the popular "Five Nights at Freddy's" game series that inspired the film, also confirmed that the script is still the team's focus at the moment and that he's happy about it so far.

"The script is still being worked on. The people involved are taking the movie seriously, which is definitely a good thing!" Cawthon wrote on a Steam thread started by a fan who wondered how the development for the movie is going.

The stretched work on the script had many believing that the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie will feature "Sister Location," the upcoming installment in Cawthon's indie survival horror point-and-click series.

The title features a creepy pig-tailed clown-like animatronic. She was unmasked in the trailer released "Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location" last month.

It is highly likely that the new character will be featured in the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie since "Sister Location" will be released before the film comes out. By that time, she should have been very established in the game's universe.

"Sister Location" is set to come out this fall -- there are reports that it will be released this September --while the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie, according to its IMDB page,  will be released in June 2018. Kenan's desire to make the effects practical and basically create the real-life animatronics will take a long while as well.

If that is the case, it will be a while before fans hear solid information about the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie. While waiting, gamers can get a load of "Sister Location" first.
