'Deadpool 2' release date: Producer Simon Kinberg hopes to start filming early next year

 20th Century Fox Official

Following the box office success of "Deadpool," fans have already been expecting the return of the Merc with a Mouth to the big screen. It will take a while for them to see "Deadpool 2," though, because shooting won't begin for several months. The production team is eyeing an early 2017 start for its filming, giving rise to speculations of a 2018 screening.

"The guys, [Paul] Wernick and [Rhett] Reese, are working on the script, and we hope to have a script very soon," producer Simon Kinberg told Collider. "We hope to shoot the movie sometime at the beginning of next year."

The waiting game is on, and the internet will undoubtedly be filled with speculations and rumors on what antics the Marvel superhero will come up with next. However, information about the film and other future X-Men movies is reportedly being kept under wraps more tightly than before.

"I can only tell you that it's going extremely well and that's about all I will tell you about it," he said. "We want it to be discovered the way that we used to watch movies a long time ago when you didn't know everything about them before you went to go see them."

Apart from the return of the two screenwriters who penned "Deadpool," actor Ryan Reynolds will also be coming back to don his red superhero spandex once more. The immense success of the original film undoubtedly puts a pressure on them to provide a sequel that would match or even top its predecessor.

"Deadpool," released in February this year, garnered $778.6 million at the box office on a $58 million budget, as posted on Box Office Mojo. Moreover, it received generally positive reviews from critics, earning an average rating of 84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer and 65 out of 100 in Metacritic's Metascore. It also earned Reynolds the Best Comedic Performance at the MTV Movie Awards.

It is too early for the film to have a release date, but according to Entertainment Weekly, 20th Century Fox has reserved two dates in 2018. One of these is speculated to be earmarked for of "Deadpool 2."
