Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy join Beyonce onstage after MTV VMA performance and Vanguard Award

Beyonce received the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Awards at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 24. Last year's recipient of the coveted award was Justin Timberlake, and other recipients include Madonna, Beastie Boys, and Britney Spears.

The singer entertained the audience with a medley of her entire self-titled visual album released this year.

The singer also led the MTV VMAs with a whopping eight nominations, including video of the year for "Pretty Hurts."

In 2011, Beyonce used the MTV VMAs as a platform to announce that she was pregnant with her first child - Blue Ivy.

Prior to her performance, MTV executive vice-president David Sirulnick said: "You're going to want to tune in and see what she brings. You don't want to miss what Beyonce is going to do.

"She is one of the great artists of our time. She probably, as well as anybody, may know what the opportunity of the VMA stage can do. I know she is going to show everybody what she can do, as she has for years."

This year's MTV Video Music Awaards was opened by a performance of "Bang Bang" from Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Jessie J. Both Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande also performed their singles "Anaconda" and "Break Free" respectively.

Other performers at tonight's MTV VMAs include Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Usher and Maroon 5. Iggy Azalea will perform the song "Black Widow"with Rita Ora, and Taylor Swift will perform her new single "Shake it Off."

Presenters include Demi Lovato, Gwen Stefani, Kim Kardashian, Laverne Cox, Dylan O'Brien, Jason DeRulo, Nina Dobrev, Lorde, Uzo Aduba,Taylor Schilling and Trey Songz.

The 2014 MTV Video Music Awards was broadcast live from the 'Fabulous' Forum in California on Sunday, August 24.
