Even though the 2011 American superhero film "Green Lantern" was among the long list of critical blockbuster failures, chances are that the upcoming 2016 superhero film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" might be able to give the character some additional room to squeeze in for its own standalone film.

It appears that both Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder are progressing forward in to making sure that Green Lantern will become popular in the near future to star in his own film. Christina Wren is expected to play the DC character, Major Carrie Farris, and according to her history present in the comic books, it appears that the character might become the forerunner for something bigger.

The actress spoke to Pittsburgh magazine concerning her role for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and while she did not officially confirm that she will be appearing in the film, her manner of speaking revealed one core detail. She states: 

"My character's name is Carrie Farris; there is a character named Carol who is the Green Lantern's girlfriend and turns into this superhero, Star Sapphire. But I have no idea if that is the plan; they're not even slated to do a Green Lantern film for several years."

It is unclear why the actress termed the character Star Sapphire as a superhero since in the original series, the character has always appeared to assume a villainous role. Major Carrie Farris was occasionally referred to as Carol, who was a businesswoman and pilot. She also became the love interest of Hal Jordan over the course of the series but overtime, she was possessed by a Star Sapphire gem, which resulted in her personality alteration and transformed her in to the malicious Star Sapphire.

Star Sapphire's character has appeared in animated films and series, including "Justice League Doom" and the "Justice League" cartoon series that ran from 2001 to 2004.
