'Avengers 4' spoilers: Paul Bettany may have just confirmed Vision's fate

Paul Bettany as Vision in "Avengers: Infinity War" Marvel

Vision's fate in "Avengers: Infinity War" is still up in the air, but Paul Bettany who portrays the character may have just revealed the outcome of his confrontation with Josh Brolin's Thanos in the upcoming film.

Out of all the superheroes, the synthetic humanoid is the most likely to bite the dust considering the thing that gives him powers is what the Mad Titan is trying to collect in the movie. If Thanos obtains all the Infinity Stones at some point, he is pretty much going to have to rip the Mind Stone out of Vision's forehead, likely killing the Avenger in the process.

The trailer teases this grim event, showing Bettany's character agonizing in pain as members of the Black Order try to take the gem out of his head. However, it looks like he will get out of the dire situation unscathed.

Bettany recently shared a photo of himself in full Vision costume on the set of "Avengers 4," suggesting he may live past the end of the next movie. Check out his Instagram posting below:

While that could be true, fans still should not get too excited. "Avengers 4" is expected to feature extensive flashback sequences including ones from the '60s and the first "Avengers" film among others. Thus, Vision may only appear in one of those scenes and not be necessarily alive during the MCU Phase 3 capper.

Whether he survives or not, Bettany previously suggested fans can expect a cinematic event unlike any other with the last two "Avengers" installments. He told Collider in August that "Infinity War" "felt like the biggest movie that I've ever made and will ever make, and we've still got to make the [next] one."

He compared the set to a town of trailers. "It's massive," he said. "The call sheets are bananas. When you see the list of cast members, you're like, 'How is anybody else making a film in Hollywood this year? How are they getting films financed? Everybody is in this!'"

Apart from Bettany, "Avengers: Infinity War" also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, and more.

It is set for release on May 4 with Joe and Anthony Russo at the helm. The fourth installment will then follow a year later, on May 3, 2019.
