Speculations are rife on the internet that James Cameron's sequel to the 2009 hit "Avatar" is plagued with delays that is jeopardizing the target release of the much awaited film.

According to one report, lead stars Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington are both negotiating for a higher salary before agreeing to return to the franchise, but Cameron is not sure that this can be worked out due to the limited budget for the "Avatar" sequels.

Based on rumors, the two stars won't return to the franchise if their requests are not met. Cameron is allegedly opting to shift the focus of the movie to Sigourney Weaver (who previously took on the role of Dr. Grace Augustine) and Stephen Lang (who portrayed Col. Miles Quatrich).

While no official statement has been made about the issue, Lang — who recently starred in another hit movie titled "Don't Breathe" — confirmed that his character will be an important part of the future of the franchise. "Well, I can say because it's a matter of public record, that the character of Colonel Quaritch is important in each of the films — Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5," Lang told Mashable.

Sigourney Weaver will also be part of the franchise, but the actress will have a different role since her character died in the first movie. Cameron said that her character will be a "different and challenging" one.

It has also been reported that Cameron is pushing the boundaries of technology to ensure the best movie experience for the viewers when the sequel hits theaters.

"I'm going to push. Not only for better tools, workflow, high dynamic range and high frame rates- the things we are working toward. I'm still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen - with no glasses. We'll get there," he told Den of Geek.
