'Inside Out 2' release date rumors: Will there be a sequel?

 Disney Movies

Pixar Animation Studios' latest film "Inside Out" has just gone beyond global sales of $500 million last Tuesday. It is now the eighth among Pixar films that earned this achievement, reports Deadline.

The new animated film focuses on human consciousness by literally looking inside the mind of an 11-year-old girl. The movie offers an accurate story of brain function based on scientific evidence.

With all the film's success in just less than a week after it hit theaters, many have asked if the movie will bear a sequel.

In a recent interview with Pixar President Jim Morris and "Inside Out" film director Pete Docter, Entertainment Weekly asked about plans on a potential "Inside and Out 2."

But Docter revealed that there are no plans on making a sequel at the moment, stating that he'd rather create more original movies.

Docter directed Pixar's "Monsters, Inc." and "Up;" and while the former had a sequel, he said he didn't take part in it.

However, there could be hope left; after all, Docter did mention in the interview to "never say never."

"Inside Out" features Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Bill Hader, Mindy Kaling, and Lewis Black as voices of different emotions.

The emotions — Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger — guide young Riley on her journey in life.

When Riley and her family move to San Francisco, Sadness dominated and worse, a freak accident sent Sadness and Joy wandering off to the "wilderness of the mind," which left only Disgust, Fear and Anger to control Riley, as reported in Cinema Blend.

The animated film was considered as "the best children's film ever made," as reported by Byrony Gordon of The Telegraph, since it conveys a powerful message that "it's okay to be sad."

If a sequel for "Inside Out" will never be made, Docter, together with producer Jonas Rivera, plans to bring it into Disney theme parks. However, the process of doing so can be complicated, but both Docter and Rivera hope to see "Inside Out" characters roaming around Main Street, CinemaBlend noted.
