Young people gathered in a North London church on Saturday to express their unanimous opposition to gang violence.

The youth concert at St Aldhelm’s Church, Edmonton, was held in response to the gang murders that have blighted the area since the start of the year.

The evening was joined by youth activist Alexander Rose, who has worked in a number of campaigns against knives, guns and drugs.

The local Youth Engagement Panel led a conflict management workshop before the concert featuring JK and Epiphany.

Vicar of St Aldhelm’s Church, the Rev David Bolster said, "This is a positive alternative to throwing up your arms in horror at the gang culture that has gripped our neighbourhood.

“Most of the young people in our area want peace and security. This concert is about celebrating life and joy in the gospel.”

The Bishop of Edmonton, the Rev Peter Wheatley said the evening was a “proactive initiative” to reduce gang culture across North London.

“It is vital that entire communities work together to ensure that support is provided to all young people susceptible to local gang culture,” he said.

“Music can help give us the new vision we need in our communities.

“Life should be about coming together, not to fight, hurt and destroy but to have fun, share our talents and help each other."
