LG G3: Android 5.0.1 Lollipop bugs spark complaints

LG G3 users who plan to upgrade to the 5.0.1 version of Android Lollipop may want to hold off for a while as some users are complaining about the bugs and issues found in the latest update.

Last week, LG G3 users under AT&T started receiving notifications that the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OS update is already available. The announcement from the company confirmed that the OS upgrade will be released over Wi-Fi only through FOTA or Firmware Over The Air update. The latest mobile firmware brings the update to Android 5.0 (Lollipop), Google setup wizard (R2G removed), and stability improvements.

Users were ecstatic that LG decided to skip the buggy Android 5.0 and go straight to the 5.0.1 version of the operating system. However, some users encountered problems when they refreshed their mobile software to the new version of Android. Complaints have been vented out in forums and social media.

According to some users, the smartphone suffers battery life, performance, and apps issues. In addition, the OS reportedly lacks functionality, no lock screen widgets, the ability to see only two notifications at a time, and even the appearance of a camera icon on the lock screen.

Some handsets were automatically updated to Lollipop since AT&T reportedly has a habit of updating their devices without their customers' permission. Users receive the notification for over-the-air update but if that notification is ignored and not dismissed, the update is said to be installed automatically anyway.

Since its official roll out in November, the biggest Android update has been plagued with bugs and issues. The 5.0.1 version has apparently not resolved all of the issues in the OS. Surprisingly, Google has not rolled out a stable version of the latest software yet; hence, the suggestion for users to hold their horses in updating their respective handsets might be worth heeding.
