Lauren Scruggs shared her testimony on I Am Second. She says she felt the Lord was always present during her recovery

A year ago, Lauren Scruggs nearly died when she walked into the propeller of an airplane.

She lost her left arm and eye but thankfully survived and now, a year on, she puts her amazing recovery down to God.

Scruggs said: "I think it's just amazing to watch how the Lord has restored me and healed my body in such a short amount of time and miraculous things.

"God has a different plan and often times it is shocking and unexpected."

The 24-year-old has had to get used to a prosphetic eye and hand, but these changes have not stopped her from living life to the full and she recently shared pictures of her skiing vacation with friends.

The accident has also changed her sense of purpose in life and she now wants to use her story to encourage young girls struggling with self-esteem issues.

"I am seeing that this life is way bigger than me and I think that a lot of things that I held important earlier, even in my career, were quite shallow and I just want to use what I have been through to talk to young girls and let them know that our appearance is not what defines us. Even just insecurities that we may not hold onto do not define us," she says.

Scruggs admitted that on an emotional level, accepting the loss of her eye and hand was "hard sometimes".

But she added that it was getting better and she was realising that "God's in control of my life and there's a purpose to this story".

"I think [God] has called me to just be open about what I have been through and to be vulnerable even though it's something that I wouldn't have personally chosen for myself," she said.

"It just shows that God has a different plan and often times it is shocking and unexpected but it's still something really beautiful and I want to use that."
