'Grey's Anatomy' season 12 spoilers: April and Jackson to divorce, Jo and Alex to marry

"Grey's Anatomy" will return February to continue the cliffhangers left in episode 8.Facebook/ABC

After the explosive winter finale of the long-running ABC series "Grey's Anatomy," fans are clamoring for more information on what will take place when the show resumes its run next year.

There were many things that transpired before the medical drama went on hiatus, including the altercation between Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and between Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson). Meredith finally learned why the red-haired doctor hated the other man's guts. It appears that Nathan was very close to Owen's family, which was proven when Owen's mother paid a visit to the hospital. When she saw Nathan, she approached him and they hugged. He even called her "Ma."

While Owen admitted to Meredith the whole sordid story, Amelia was getting thirsty for some inside detail about the Owen–Nathan saga. Unfortunately, her sister refused to divulge anything about it, which irritated Amelia in a major way. She started screaming that Meredith was loyal to everyone but her and that if Derek (Patrick Dempsey) were alive, he would not like what his wife was doing to her life. Meredith responded in a way that Amelia never expected — she demanded the latter to get out of their apartment.

Meanwhile, two couples in the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital hit a snag in their relationship, albeit one for the better. Alex (Justin Chambers) proposed to Jo (Camilla Luddington). While she did not answer yes to his offer of marriage, the expression on her face spoke it.

As for April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams), they would be facing tough times ahead. Instead of talking about divorce, they ended up sleeping together a few episodes back. April has been avoiding Jackson ever since, which frustrates the latter. What will happen between these two?

According to TV Line, the first episode of 2016, "Sound of Silence" will be directed by Oscar winner Hollywood actor and director Denzel Washington. It will air on Feb. 11, 2016 at 8:00 pm EST on ABC.
