God's Plans Are Bigger, Better and, Yes, Scarier Than Yours

As Christians, we believe that God's will is good, pleasing and perfect and that it always works out for our good. But that doesn't mean we aren't going to be challenged even by our own callings every so often.

I have always been fascinated (as should everyone be) by God's call for my own life. Many times when I think that I've got it all figured out, something happens that proves to me that I can never fully understand God's will. All I can do is trust in Him and run my course. The haziness of our purposes is not caused by the indecisiveness of a God who doesn't care, but by the great magnitude it has that just cannot be comprehended right away by our limited minds. In other words, God's plans are just too big for us to understand right away.

But even when we don't understand God's plans for us, He does. In Jeremiah 29:11, we are assured by what God says, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

Not only is God's plan bigger than we think, it's also much better as well. His word declares that His plans are for our welfare, which means our overall wellbeing. God wants all things added unto us, but invites us to seek Him first because He is the only one who can make this "bigger than us" plan happen and the only one who can comprehend it from beginning to completion.

I will not lie that the vastness of God's plans does not scare me. Is it really going to work out? What if I mess it up? Do I lose a place in God's intricate plan? We've all done one thing or another to make us feel like we've messed things up to such an extent that we fear God would not restore our lives anymore. There is no limit, however, to God's ability to make things meet their completion. Even in our faithlessness, God remains faithful and able to make things work together.

Thank God that our plans and welfare are never completely up to us. If it were, most of us would have lost their way permanently by now. But God, in His rich mercies, made a way for us. That way was and is Jesus Christ. Through Christ's finished work on the cross, our purpose is set on stone.

Now because of what Jesus has done, we can be assured that God's big, wonderful and scary plans will come to pass. The cross seals the deal, not our capacity, mistakes or faith. God can and will have His ultimate way because He understands it all and is not intimidated by its hugeness because He is able to fulfill all things.
