Films for the faithful

|PIC1|What do Oscar winner Kathy Bates, Janet Jackson and Britain’s own rising star, Idris Elba all have in common? They’ve all starred in faith films, one of the fasting growing movie genres of the moment.

To meet the demand of audiences that want to watch great films with powerful messages, a London-based film organisation will be starting Britain’s first ever film club entirely devoted to the faith film genre.

Believers and interested parties looking for something to do on a Sunday other than go to church will be excited about Rapture - Films for the Faithful. This unique event launches on July 26 at the Coronet Cinema in London's Notting Hill and will feature a faith-based film, followed by interesting discussion with a specially invited panel about the film themes and a live performance by a gospel artist.

The first film to be screened at Rapture Films for the Faithful film club will be Soulmate, a groundbreaking film-documentary about the lives of single black Christian women and how they’ve adapted to life without a partner.

Rapture – Films for the Faithful Media is the brainchild of media production company Anointed Productions. Priscilla Igwe, co-director of Anointed Production believes this unique film club will provide the public the opportunity to explore issues of faith through film and help raise the profile of faith based films here in the UK.

“Film is such a powerful and popular medium and I felt inspired to put on an event where people of faith and people with none could watch inspirational films and follow it with discussion," she said.

""Film provides a great platform to bring people together to talk about issues of a spiritual nature and Rapture aims to provide that.

“Our first film screening deals with a topic that causes great debate, comment and anguish in the faith community – singleness and the lack of available partners.

"I am hoping the community will come out in their droves to not only watch this award winning feature but also contribute their opinion to this important issue.”

Rapture – Films for the Faithful will take place on a monthly basis. Other films that will be screened are Not Easily Broken on August 16 and the Secret Life of Bees on September 20.
