CWR has launched a brand new publication on some of the best known Christian revivalists to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the opening of their world renowned ministry base, Waverley Abbey House.

Great Revivals was commissioned by CWR, the ministry of Selwyn Hughes, to excite Christians with some of the key figures in the revival moves of God from 1700 to the present day and to "inspire an intelligent and biblical understanding of how revival might fall again", the ministry said.

The book features 25 revivalists, including Christmas Evans, George Jeffreys, John Newton, Charles Wesley, Smith Wigglesworth and David Yonggi Cho.

The profiles offer a brief historical sketch of the life and times of each revivalist, as well as the opportunity for readers to respond personally and be revived.

The book is authored by the former head of English and housemaster at Charterhouse School, John Peters. Peters is well suited to write the commemorative volume, given his birth in Aberdare, a real focal point of the revival of 1904, and his connections to Selwyn Hughes. Not only did they share similar roots in south Wales and a lifelong interest in the Welsh Revival, he was also invited to write Hughes' biography in the early Nineties.

Oxford educated Peters offers readers wisdom in seeking to understand various outpourings of the Holy Spirit in today's times.

Mick Brook, Chief Executive of CWR, said he hoped that the book would be a further spur as Christ's church prepares for and anticipates revival in the UK.

"CWR's history of praying for revival and our rich experience in applying God's Word to counselling, training and pastoral care, will mean, I hope, that we are well-placed to pastor and resource those caught up in any future outpouring as we are committed to world revival," he said.
