From the pilgrimage shrine of St Davids to the bombed remains of Coventry Cathedral to the disputed Holy Land - a range of modern perspectives of the Christian faith feature in an ambitious new DVD produced by the Church in Wales.

Titled “Menter”, the Welsh for Venture, the DVD is designed to stimulate discussions about what it means to be a Christian in today’s world. It is divided into 10 sections which groups can follow week by week.

It has been produced by the Diocese of St Davids and the discussions are led by the Archdeacon of St Davids, Dr John Holdsworth, and the Bishop of Bangor Andy John, the former Archdeacon of Cardigan.

It features views from people working in hospitals, on social projects and teenage pupils from around St Davids Diocese, as well as reflections from Coventry, the Corrymeela community in Ireland, Bethlehem and the Sea of Galilee.

It is, says Dr Holdsworth, a unique tool of evangelism.

“This is not a set of answers or a list of what people must believe. It is about giving people tools and options that they can use to reflect and respond to and see what it sparks off in their experiences," he said.

“We hope it will be used at a wide range of events - as part of a church service, during a coffee morning or with youth groups, for example.”

The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, recommends Menter to parishes.

He said, “Menter raises important contemporary questions about issues such as suffering, the resurrection, the person of Jesus and what it means to be a disciple today. It is a well-produced DVD which I’m sure it will lead to stimulating discussion.”

Copies of Menter cost £5 and can be obtained from:
