Carrie Underwood's baptism-themed song 'Something in the Water' tops Billboard Christian chart

Carrie Underwood's song about life-changing conversion to the Christian faith, "Something in the Water", has soared to the top of the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart.

The song was released on September 29 and is also sitting pretty at the top of the Country Streaming and Christian Streaming lists, according to Nielsen BDS, and the Country Digital and Christian Digital, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The lyrics of the powerful song include: "I followed that preacher man down to the river / And now I'm changed / And I'm stronger / There must've been something in the water."

The song was co-written with Chris DeStefano and Brett James, and takes a leaf out of Jesus Take the Wheel's book in being about the power of faith to see people through difficult times.

Underwood described the song to NBC's Today show as a "joyous, uplifting song about changing your life for the better and waking up and having that a-ha moment and your life being different from that moment forward".

"Jesus Take the Wheel" was her first big hit after winning American Idol in 2005 and marked the start of what has been a remarkable decade in music for her.

That illustrious chapter in her career has been encapsulated in her new collection, Greatest Hits: Decade#1, due out on December 9.

The collection brings together some of her greatest hits from the four studio albums she has released over the last 10 years, which together have given her a phenomenal 18 No 1s.
