WWE 2K19 pre-order bonus is Rey Mysterio but Ronda Rousey may be second unnamed character

It's just a few short months now until the hotly anticipated WWE 2K19 release is upon us and the pre-order bonus has just been confirmed.

A tweet from the official WWE 2K19 Twitter page and statement from 2K revealed that fans of the franchise who pre-order the next installment can get their hands on Rey Mysterio as the pre-order bonus.

It's the first time we've seen the popular Rey in 2K since back in 2K15. More recent pre-order bonuses have included Bill Goldberg in 2K17 and then Kurt Angle in the most recent 2K18.

2K announced Rey Mysterio this week as the bonus content for pre-orders alongside a second unnamed playable character.

The statement said: 'Rey Mysterio, alongside a second playable character to be announced by 2K in the coming weeks, will be available as bonus content for those who pre-order the game at participating retailers for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X and Windows PC.'

That's a break from the norm for 2K which has offered just one playable character for the pre-order bonus in past editions.

Of course the rumor mill has swung into full spin over who the second playable character is that 2K is going to announce soon.

The big name in circulation is WWE wrestler of the moment, Ronda Rousey, who made her debut with WWE back in April with WrestleMania 34.

The source of that rumor is the respected wrestling reporter Dave Meltzer who according to GamesRadar gave the following tip-off: 'AJ Styles was named the cover superstar for the WWE 2K19 video game. Ronda Rousey will be the pre-order bonus character. Rey Mysterio Jr. and Jeff Hardy were reported by Pro Wrestling Sheet to have been in the video game television commercial shoot that took place this past week.'

His tip off about Rey is correct. Is he right on Rousey too? We'll know in a few weeks.

WWE 2K19 releases on October 9.
