Microsoft plans to make the upcoming Windows 10 the preferred operating system by many. As part of the company's drive, it is now releasing tools to developers so they can build universal apps for the soon-to-be-released Windows OS.
Together with the company's first technical preview of this year's version of Visual Studio, developers who have signed up and registered for Microsoft's Windows Insiders program can now start building universal apps across the different platforms that would use Windows 10. Developers may choose to build on PC, smartphones, tablets, and the Xbox One game console using Visual Studio 2015.
The new Visual Studio has been refurbished to give developers more freedom in building their universal apps. As part of the Windows Insider program, there is a universal apps platform with an adaptive user interface, easy to see API contracts, a number of user controls, and other Visual Studio tooling improvements.
For those wishing to join, they can get started by joining the Windows Insider program. After the registration and signing up, they can then download and install the latest Windows 10 technical preview so it supports the universal app platform development.
Developers can then install the appropriate tools, such as the Visual Studio 2015 and the tool where the provided software development kit is packaged, which is the Technical Preview tool.
Aside from the software, Microsoft has also released different tools for hardware testing. These will help developers build, customize, and assess if their hardware can accommodate and deploy a release of Windows 10.
Microsoft seems to be taking many steps in making sure that the upcoming Windows 10 will be the operating system of choice by many. Recently, Microsoft issued a statement providing free upgrades to Windows 10 for those who are using older Windows versions. Microsoft is also partnering with different tech companies to provide upgrade facilities and to natively embed Windows 10 on future devices.
