Even though "Mass Effect 3" displays the quest end of long-running protagonist Commander Shepard who seemingly put an end to the Reaper threat, BioWare and Electronic Arts have not yet given up on the series. A new installment that will most likely feature a brand new character and, perhaps, a brand new storyline is in the pipeline, but the upcoming title's release date continues to remain elusive.
According to the General Manager at BioWare, Aaryn Flynn, the upcoming role playing game will not be attempting to look for success through the backbones of other titles like "Dragon Age: Inquisition." Instead, it will rely on its own storyline and unique gameplay mechanic in order to snare gamers who display a high level of affinity for action packed role playing games.
He specifically states: "The next Mass Effect will be drawing on its own rich and successful past more than what DAI would say it should do. Take the Mako, something we've already shown in prototype form. We had that in Mass Effect 1, and bringing it back is more related to a feeling that we can do it much better than we did before and fulfill the original promise of that gameplay."
Fabrice Condominas, "Mass Effect's" producer currently working at BioWare Montreal, tweeted that he was "playing with a new feature, although it is still an ugly prototype." He also said that he was happy to "toy" around it but made no mention as to how it would be implemented in to the next "Mass Effect" title.
Evidence that BioWare and Electronic Arts are working on a "Mass Effect" sequel came in the form of a tease that was showcased during the E3 2014 event. While there was no specific gameplay involved, music that distinctively belongs to the franchise right from the very first installment showed that fans should be ready for an upcoming title.
