Transformers: Age of Extinction star Sophia Myles has reported that her dad, a former church vicar, has passed away from coronavirus.

The actress, who also starred in hit TV show Dr Who, lost her father to the deadly virus last week.

Rev Peter Myles, 77, suffered from Parkinson's Disease and his daughter had been documenting his struggle with the illness for a US TV network, the Buxton Advertiser reports.

Just a day before his death, she posted a touching picture of herself at her father's bedside with her hand affectionately touching his forehead as she wore gloves, an apron and face mask.

Despite her own tragic loss, Myles has been sharing video updates, jokes and fun challenges on her Twitter page to help others get through the pandemic.

Over the weekend, she held a Q&A session in which she opened up about her fears, dealing with feelings of boredom, and her daily struggle to keep the kids entertained during the lockdown.

When one fan asked her what her fears were, she said candidly: "I am terrified of clowns and on a deep psychological level, I am very frightened of being abandoned."

But she also encouraged people to love one another.

"A way to get through these difficult times is to a) reach out to your friends about how you are feeling," she said.

"But more importantly, to give love to everyone you are talking to. not just your friends but just simply people that you meet in the street and I find that giving a smile is a lovely way to brighten someone's day."
