'The Winds of Winter' release date news: anticipated installment rumored to debut March 2017

"The Winds of Winter" has long been delayed but, author George R.R. Martin has confirmed that he is working on the book and that it may be released sometime soon. The book is now looking at a possible March 2017 release date, which would make it available prior to the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 7.

Following the massive success of the show at the Emmy Awards, Martin revealed in an interview with Deadline that he did write enough material for the show to have a spin-off or prequel based on the books and that he is still writing more, confirming that he is hard at work, finishing "The Winds of Winter."

"I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to 'Game of Thrones,' so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more," he explained. "At the moment we still have this show to finish and I still have two books to finish so that's all speculation," he went on to say.

Later on, he posted on his official blog site that he had returned home and was going back to finishing the book. Fans of the author will note that Martin is known for being most comfortable to write at home on his own computer and that he had canceled many public appearances in order to sit down and finish the book.

However, the novel may be closer to completion than previously believed. A report from Esquire reveals that Amazon France has posted a March 2017 release date for the book, although Martin, his UK publisher Harper Collins, and his US publisher, Penguin Random House, have commented about the date and its accuracy.

Should the book launches by that date, it will be a few months early from the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 7 and it will give the book fans the written version of events that took place in the show's sixth season such as Jon Snow's resurrection and Daenerys' war on the slavers and the Sons of the Harpy.
