"The Leftovers" season 3 will be the final season for the show. No official release date has been announced, but production has been completed. Now, it is expected that the show will return in early 2017, and fans speculate that it may launch in April before the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 7.

Actor Justin Theroux, who plays the lead character, Kevin Garvey, posted a clip on Instagram showcasing the men and women behind the show. The caption of his post confirmed that filming had officially ended, meaning the series was now in the editing and post-production phase.

Unfortunately, Theroux did not further elaborate on when the show may premiere, but the mere fact that production has ended before the end of September means that the show is still on schedule. A few months back, series co-creator and executive producer Damon Lindelof told Deadline that he intended on finishing filming by September and then focus on editing throughout October and November

During the same interview, he confirmed that the series was not going to end with an explosive finale and that the ending would not give the audience all the answers to the mysteries asked since the show began.

"Definitely not shock. As for comfort - well, that's all relative," he said when asked if the finale would be shocking to audiences. He also went on to say: "I think that 'The Leftovers' has carved out a space in the zeitgeist that's much more culty, it's a much smaller, impassioned audience. And so, I don't feel the pressure that say a 'Breaking Bad' or a 'Game Of Thrones' or a 'Lost' or 'Walking Dead' feels, when they're ending seasons or series."

This would be very different compared to other popular shows, in which their series finale are often accompanied by high stake events like the world ending, revelations being made, or major characters getting killed off.

"The Leftovers" season 3 premieres on HBO in 2017.
