Now that "The Gifted" has just concluded, fans and viewers will be glad to know that the sci-fi-adventure show will be returning for a second season next year.

The show, which was created by Matt Nix, was picked up in advance by Fox after production wrapped up for season 1. Viewership numbers were respectable enough for the studio to renew the superhero program for a second outing. Apparently, the network also wanted to have a recognizable superhero show in its primetime lineup. The moderately popular "The Gifted" would do just that for the channel.

In an interview with IGN, Nix teased about what direction the mutants will take next in the sophomore run. He stressed, "One thing I think you'll see a lot more of in Season 2, which I really like because it's more thematically resonant and it's fun, is just seeing mutants in the world more. Mutants interacting with humans in everyday circumstances, rather than just mutants in a mutant headquarters interacting with mutants."

He further added, "Under the pressure of what happens in the wake of Senator Montez dying, the mutant underground being in a position where it has to become less of a place, and more of a network." Nix later reasoned that it was always a network, but it now has to be a much more underground, spread out kind of thing.

In the season finale, the Sentinel Services tracked down the mutants' headquarters, which prompted them to flee their home. The Strucker kids Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Percy Hynes White) stayed behind to destroy the building so that the Sentinels would not be able to track down the mutants any further.

"The Gifted" season 2 is expected to return sometime in the Fall of 2018. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
