Many years have already passed since "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" was released for the PC, but it remains as one of the most heavily and frequently modified — or "modded" — games, and now modders have recently revealed one of the biggest upcoming custom content to be released soon: The "Skyblivion" project, a recreation of Skyrim's predecessor, "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" using Skyrim's engine.
Many mods for the game have been created by players through the years including custom-made weapons and armor, additional non-payable characters (NPCs) and even custom storylines. All of these add much more content to the already massive gameplay Skyrim has to offer.
The project was announced back in 2012, when a team of modders envisioned how the world of Oblivion would look like if it was rendered using Skyrim's engine.
Those who have played both games would know that Oblivion takes place in Cyrodiil, the imperial province located south of Skyrim and would therefore be a lusher, greener and warmer place compared with the rocky and unforgivingly cold tundra in the North. It means that countless hours would have to be spent in creating the game's environment alone as the unfrozen trees and vegetation demands more attention to detail.
Years after the project launched, the Skyblivion team finally uploaded a video showing their progress, where they presented the changes that players will experience once they immerse themselves in the game.
"You will be able to spot new colorful weathers, new trees and flora, new clothing, new custom designed weapons, NPC schedules, remade textures and models, custom made creatures using custom behaviors and animations," the team said in the description.
True to their goal, their rendition of Cyrodiil is indeed more beautiful than what players have seen in Oblivion. With the absence of snow covering most of the terrain and the addition of livelier trees and plants, it would be easy for players to forget that they are actually playing Skyrim, as the trailer alone gives the impression that the game is indeed, Oblivion.
