"The Blacklist" season 4 is going to dive into a lot of character histories, but it will also see Reddington (James Spader) deal with Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert), who severely betrayed him in the past.

An image featured by Zap2It suggests that Red will finally sit down with Mr. Kaplan to sort things out. Fans could recall that season 3 ended with a sudden cliffhanger when Liz (Megan Boone) was kidnapped. Season 4, as previously reported, is going to see Red and the rest of the team go their separate ways to find her as well as reveal Red's true connection to Liz's past. As Red deals with this he will need to get back on terms with Mr. Kaplan.

"How Red handles Mr. Kaplan's betrayal is a big story for us to tell and we're going to dive right into that. That's something that comes up very early in the season. That incredibly deep betrayal to Reddington is going to chew up quite a bit of scenery," explained series creator Jon Bokenkamp.

The exact significance of their discussions is still a mystery, although it is widely speculated that Red needs information from Mr. Kaplan to save Liz and to prove who her true father is.

Other promotional images showcase Tom (Ryan Eggold) burying a body, presumably the person who tried to assassinate him in season 3. Tom will be on the move to reunite with the rest of the team and continue the search for Liz.

Another promotional image showcases actor Paul Calderon portraying a villain who is shown discussing terms with Red in a restaurant. Red is reportedly asking this villain for a "sample," and this may help prove on whether or not Alexander (Ulric Thomsen) is Liz's father. It is possible that Red learns of this sample from Mr. Kaplan.

"The Blacklist" season 4 is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
