'Star Wars: Episode 9' release date, plot rumors: May 2019 premiere announced

"Star Wars: Episode 9" is officially slated for a May 24, 2019 release date. Two other movies from the popular franchise are expected to be released later this December and in May 2018.

The "Star Wars: Episode 9" release date was announced together with the postponed premiere of "Indiana Jones 5," which acquired the schedule of July 2020 instead of 2019. As of now, "Star Wars: Episode 9's" official title has yet to be announced. However, it is reportedly intended to be the conclusion of the current "Star Wars" trilogy.

Plot details for "Star Wars: Episode 9" remains unknown. Meanwhile, writer Rian Johnson clarified through Twitter that she is not currently involved in the film production.

While has been slow to unfold for "Star Wars: Episode 9," the Lucasfilm team are busy preparing for the upcoming untitled Han Solo film. "We have four or five weeks immersed in the film Han Solo and we are about to read the script of Colin Trevorrow's Episode IX, so we have a lot of work at the moment," Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told E-Cartela, as reported by Express UK. The Han Solo film is expected to be out by May 2018.

The said upcoming film premiered its first trailer during the Star Wars Celebration Day 2017 that was held in Florida. The anticipated preview shows Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) stating that it is time for the Jedi to end. Based on the trailer, many speculate that the film will take a dark turn. 

Meanwhile, a female character is set to join the cast of "The Last Jedi." The new cast addition is known to be Kelly Marie Tran. She will play Rose, one of the maintenance workers of the Resistance.

While "Star Wars: Episode 9" will not hit cinemas in the next two years, fans can look forward to "Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi" when it premieres it Dec. 15.
