Good news has reached Sony Mobile fans in the U.S. as the current-gen Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact are slated to appear in the U.S. market next month.
However, fans might find the U.S. models to be different from the global versions since the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact bound for U.S. shores will be launching without fingerprint sensors.
According to The Verge, it was Sony Mobile itself that informed them that while it is itrue that the company's current-gen premium smartphone flagship will be available to U.S. fans starting next month, the Japan-based tech manufacturer removed the security-focused fingerprint scanner sensors from the models. Sony Mobile did not say why the company chose to come out with this version for the United States.
Techno Buffalo said that while the feature is not a standout selling point for the Xperia lineup, having a fingerprint sensor is still a useful one, particularly for an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which integrates the fingerprint scanner into some of the its platform features. Having a fingerprint scanner also adds a layer of security for the device, and some apps like the Google Play Store also rely on this feature for added protection.
Meanwhile, CNET said that while the fingerprint sensor will not make it to the iterations, the U.S. versions of the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact still retain their specs and design. The two models will have a Snapdragon 810 processor, a 23-MP main shooter and a 5-MP one on the front, as well as microSD support for storage expansion of up to 200 GB. Moreover, the U.S. versions will still retain the same metal-and-glass unibody design that offers water resistance for up to 3 feet.
The Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact will be offered directly to U.S. fans starting Feb. 7, with the base model Xperia Z5 having a $600 price tag, and $500 for the Xperia Z5 Compact.
