Samsung added another iteration to its slate lineup, as the 2016 edition of the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 goes official.
According to Android Police, the official reveal of the new tablet on the German Samsung website says the new Galaxy Tab A (2016) is for "families with children," so one of the most noted features of the new slate is an integrated Kid Mode. This feature allows creation of up to eight profiles for the users, with one profile set for children that automatically scans content, and also features apps like coloring books, voice changer, and fun camera.
Under the hood, the 2016 edition of the Galaxy Tab A slate underwent significant improvements. The screen technology now uses Samsung's own PLS, instead of the IPS displays in previous iterations. In addition, the screen has a 1920 x 1200 resolution. Performance-wise, the new slate also gets a jump as it features an unannounced octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Judging from its specs sheet, Phone Arena surmises that Samsung used the Exynos 7870 chipset. Onboard storage is at 16GB, and users who want to maximize the storage can expand it up to 200GB. The 2016 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 comes with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 right out of the box. The slate also has an 8MP/2MP camera setup, and both can capture 1080p video.
To release early next month, the new Galaxy Tab A slate comes in black and white. There are also two connectivity iterations – a Wi-Fi only model will cost €289, while the LTE model will sell for €349.
Launched first in Germany, it is likely that the new slate will make it to other European markets soon. However, there is still no word if the new tablet will make it to other countries such as the U.S.
