Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs rumors: dual-cam setup among the features?

With the onset of flagships offering a dual-cam setup, Samsung is said to be planning on having the new feature on its next flagship.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has decided to feature a dual-cam setup for the Galaxy S8, ostensibly to counter the upcoming iPhone 7. While the South Korea-based tech giant has yet to confirm specifics, it is said that the dual-setup will feature a similar tech from the 12MP shooters in current Samsung flagships, like the Galaxy Note 7. However, for the Galaxy S8, the 12MP main camera will be supported by a secondary sensor with a 13MP setup. This means that the Galaxy S8 will be able to shoot better images with improved depth of field.

In addition to the new dual-cam setup for its main shooter, Samsung will also reportedly upgrade the front camera. Reportedly, starting with the Galaxy S8, the tech maker will stick with an 8MP selfie shooter for its flagships, a massive upgrade over the 5MP selfie camera in current releases.

Meanwhile, aside from a definite camera upgrade, the Galaxy S8 is also said to come out with new features and specs. It is expected that like the current Galaxy Note 7, the Galaxy S8 will also come out with an iris scanner. In addition, rumor has it that Samsung has filed for a patent for a circular home button, and the details supposedly include the button to house a fingerprint sensor. It is unclear, however, if Samsung is thinking of putting the feature for the Galaxy S8, or another lineup altogether.

Samsung has already confirmed that aside from its current flagship series, there will also be new lineup releases by next year. Aside from the expected 2017 MWC appearance of the Galaxy S8, Samsung is also said to be unveiling a new lineup with foldable display, dubbed the Galaxy X.
