Coming from a major flagship launch last August, the rumors are rife that Samsung is already gearing up to unveil another high-end gadget in 2018. It is expected that there will be grand preparations for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, and as per the latest scoop, the phablet is initially being called "Project Crown."

While it is expected that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be the next top-tier smartphone models to be unveiled in 2018, tech enthusiasts cannot help but turn their attention far ahead into the Galaxy Note 9. As reported by The Investor, insider sources from the South Korean tech giant told the Seoul-based news outlet, The Bell that developers inside the laboratory are referring to the Note 9 as "Project Crown." This is a way to keep major information under wraps.

The "Project Crown" might sound like a random moniker for some people, but according to sources, this codename was given to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 to reflect the company's increased efforts to make their upcoming phablet as the best large-scale handset among the rest. Samsung has reportedly noted the growing number of phablets in the market today. Due to this, the tech giant wants to prove to everyone that the Galaxy Note line still holds the crown as the original top-tier phablet.

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was codenamed "Baikal," which came from the largest lake in Russia. This tag relates to the current Galaxy Note device mainly due to its massive 6.3-inch display.

According to the latest reports, Samsung is targeting the first quarter of 2018 to commence the production of Galaxy Note 9. This information came from Samsung's alleged handset components supplier, which tipped The Bell that they will begin providing the needed parts for the phablet early next year. Not much information was given regarding the Galaxy Note 9's core specs and features, although it is speculated that the phablet will surprise the public next year by being the first foldable handset from the Galaxy Note series.

Another possible feature of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is the in-display fingerprint sensor, which will require a special screen technology to embed the biometric scanner right under the OLED display.
