One of the rumored features of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 6 flagship is that it will have an iris scanner. With the launch of the new Galaxy Tab Iris, the rumors seem to have some truth to them.
Samsung has just revealed its newest addition to the Galaxy Tab series, and the new iteration may give insight into a rumored feature of the Galaxy Note 6. The South Korea-based tech conglomerate introduced the Galaxy Tab Iris in India, and one of the most noted features of the new slate is an iris scanner. The new slate is targeted at government and enterprise use in India.
Noting the new release, Dr. Aloknath De of Samsung India R&D stated, "Along with the device, we are providing an Identity SDK for application developers to build financial inclusion, payments and authentication solutions. This will encourage our start-up ecosystem to rapidly build relevant apps and services."
The launch was announced by Sukesh Jain, vice president of Samsung India Electronics. The company executive said, "The Galaxy Tab Iris addresses consumer pain points across platforms such as banking, finance, education and various citizen services by bringing enhanced usability, versatility and reliability all through one device."
Although the iris recognition tech is built as a specialized feature for the Indian market, fans expect that the technology can be adopted for other Samsung flagships. Rumor has it that one of the upcoming devices that may feature iris recognition tech is the next Galaxy Note. According to speculations, the upcoming Galaxy Note 6 will have an integrated iris scanner along with an overhauled camera setup.
While Samsung has yet to provide details on the next Galaxy Note, a new feature like an iris scanner is plausible. The technology is unhear of in smartphones, as other flagships like the new Lumia lineups from Microsoft already use iris scanners as part of their Windows Hello feature for the Windows 10 platform.
