"Rick and Morty" has been teased to premiere before the end of the year but due to the lack of an official announcement fans have begun to fear that it may be pushed back to early 2017. However, the writers have confirmed that as of Sept. 28 several episodes are done, indicating a premiere is imminent.
In an episode of the "Chicks Who Script" podcast (via iDigital Times), writers Erica Rosbe and Sarah Carbiener confirmed that, as of Sept. 28, several new episodes have already been completed and were already scheduled for screening, which is one of the final stages before they are cleared for airing.
They also confirmed that writing for the remaining episodes is nearly complete, indicating that season 3 is likely on track to premiere before the end of this year. With all of the episodes likely to be done before the end of October, "Rick and Morty" season 3 is speculated to premiere in the middle of November or in early December.
It was also explained that the writing process was complex, and it involved numerous writers. Carbiener explained that they also had to condense a lot of content. Where most shows would take a concept and stretch it through an episode, "Rick and Morty" would tackle it in just five minutes or less, which is why each episode was narratively dense.
"There's rewriting every step of the process to just make the story as good as possible," Rosbe further said, explaining the writing process and why the show has taken this long to complete. "How can this be funnier? How can this be better? Everybody would be fine with this, but it's not good enough yet," the writer went on to say.
It is important to note that Adult Swim has yet to confirm if the show is indeed ready to premiere by the end of the year or if it will be delayed to 2017.
