'Pokémon Sun and Moon' release date, news: Starter Pokémon evolutions seen in new trailer

 The Pokemon Company

"Pokémon Sun and Moon" scheduled to launch in a month, and developer Game Freak has just given fans of the franchise their first good look at the evolutions of the three starter Pokémon.

Litten, the kitten-like Fire-type starter, will evolve into Torracat. This evolved form is larger and also fiercer. It is noted for having an organic sac around its neck, similar to a bell often seen on a cat's collar. According to the descriptions on the official site, this sac is where the Pokémon produces flames.

Torracat is also stated to love battle, and the trailer shows that its main ability is called Blaze, a Special Attack that burns the opponent down.

Popplio, the Water-type starter, is shown to evolve into Brionne. Brionne is described as a Pokémon that tends to dance and is akin to a pop-star, always trying to put on a good show even when in battle. The Pokémon is also described to be very cheerful and optimistic, always putting on a happy face to hide its sorrow and pain.

Rowlet, the Grass-type starter, evolves into Dartrix. This giant-owl Pokémon is noted for its vanity and how it prioritizes its looks above all else, even above battles. The description reads that it will even surrender in battle in order to fix its ruffled feathers. It is also described as a snob, and it may be difficult to train.

The official trailer not only showcases the starter evolutions but also a new place called the Festival Plaza, a social hub where players can interact with each other and where different mini-games can be found. Gamers can earn Festival Coins to buy special items for their Pokémon.

Another new feature is the Poke Pelago, a location for Pokémon in the PC to relax when not in use for battle. Deposited Pokémon can go to Isle Abeens, and players can use this place to attract wild Pokémon in order to capture them. Isle Aphun will see deposited Pokémon search for items, and Isle Evelup will allow Pokémon to train even when not in use.

"Pokémon Sun and Moon" is scheduled to launch on the 3DS on Nov. 18.
