'Pokémon GO' Gen 2 release date, updates: 2017 to see addition of new Pokémon, PvP, trading?

"Pokémon GO" has become one of the most popular mobile games in recent years, but it isn't complete as there are still some features that were promised but not yet implemented. These include the inclusion of Generation 2 Pokémon, PvP battles, and trading, all of which might be released by 2017.

According to Otakukart, all of these are likely to be added in 2017 given that the most recent update is adjusting how gyms are handled. This new update, which allows players to store six Pokémon in a gym and balances the enemy 's CP with the player's to optimize training, will be released before the end of the year.

Since that is likely to be the last or second to the last update for the year, fans can expect Generation 2 Pokémon to not be added until sometime in 2017. Generation 2 Pokémon are those that come from "Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal" such as Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Chikorita.

Once these new Pokémon have been added, the number of Pokémon in "Pokémon GO" will most likely increase from 152 to 251.

Niantic Labs and The Pokémon Company have yet to confirm if all of the Generation 2 Pokémon will be released at the same time or if they will be released in batches. If it happens to be the latter, then future updates may come with a few new Pokémon being added to the title until all of the Generation 2 Pokémon are accounted for.

Other expected updates in 2017 include Pokémon breeding and player-versus-player (PvP) battles. The former allows players to pair two Pokémon to breed and further increase their chances of getting powerful Pokémon, while the latter lets players pit their Pokémon against another player's team.

There is also the trading feature, which allows players to exchange Pokémon with each other.

All of these features were reportedly confirmed by Niantic Labs, but the studio has yet to implement them.
