PlayStation Plus news: Members can now vote on what games they want for free

PlayStation Plus subscribers can now cast their votes on which games they potentially want to be released for free courtesy of the service.

The new voting mechanic has been added courtesy of Sony's new Vote to Play initiative.

Vote to Play works simply enough.

PlayStation Plus members will have a list of games to choose from that may be potentially released as free games via the service they are subscribed to. The one game that receives the most votes at the end of the polling will be included in one future lineup of free games that will be due out via the PlayStation Plus service, according to the official PlayStation blog.

Since not all titles that PlayStation Plus members can vote on can win the polls, Sony will instead offer a consolation prize for those games that end up near the top but ultimately finish out of first place. According to Sony, those games that will also receive lots of votes will be discounted whenever they may be released. Sony has not indicated just how big of a discount they will be providing for those titles that don't end up winning Vote to Play.

A recent leak supposedly connected to the Vote to Play initiative also gave PlayStation Plus subscribers a sneak peek into what the mechanic itself may look like.

The leak includes three titles that members can supposedly vote for, and they are "Armello," "Grow Home," and "Zombie Vikings," according to Polygon. Unfortunately, it is unknown if the three titles that were shown in the leak represent some of the first games that will be included as part of the "Vote to Play" inititative, or if they were merely being used as visual representations for how the voting itself might look like.

Sony has promised to reveal more details about Vote to Play in the near future.
