The PlayStation 4 Pro has been touted as a more powerful machine than the regular PS4, and this should mean games running on it will have better resolution, improved graphics, and smoother, higher framerates. However, after the launch of the console's 1.04 patch, it now appears that the game "Battlefield 1" is suffering from a downgrade in performance.
According to VG 24/7, "Battlefield 1" may have seen a slight issue in multiplayer balancing because players using the PS4 Pro had a slight advantage, thanks to the console's improvements. However, once the patch has been released, it now appears as if those improvements have been taken away.
The report reveals that the visual upgrades for the game appear to have been removed, and the game now sports a softer look, with jagged edges becoming more obvious. It is also noted that when playing the game in multiplayer, it appears as if the framerate had been significantly altered and reduced.
Eurogamer conducted an analysis and confirmed that patch 1.04 indeed altered how well the PS4 Pro enhancements run the game. It is noted that these downgrades only appear when playing in multiplayer as the single player mode of "Battlefield 1" appears untouched.
Developers at DICE have been silent regarding the issue. They have not detailed what improvements or issues gamers may experience when running the game on the PS4 Pro and have not stated what the patches may alter, add or remove to the game.
DICE engineer Julian Manolov did confirm via Twitter that the reason they have not stated any explanation is likely due to the non-disclosure agreement they have signed with Sony and Microsoft. With this NDA in effect, the company would not be able to share information unless Microsoft and Sony had given them permission.
"I think we're under NDA with Sony and Microsoft so I can't share any details there," Manolov responded to fans asking why they could not give anything more than basic patch notes to the consumers.
