It will still take a while before the period drama series "Outlander" returns to the small screen for its third season. To quench their thirst, the production crew provided fans a glimpse on what drama they can expect in the next installment.
According to The Wrap, Starz has released the synopsis and the first official image of Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser in "Outlander" season 3. The image showcases Jamie at the end of the Battle of Culloden, proving that season 3 will pick up right after the events of the previous season.
The official synopsis states that Claire (Caitriona Balfe) had traveled back to her original time period while Jamie deals with his loss at Culloden. Season 2 did show that Claire may have found a way back to the eighteenth century, giving her hope that she and Jamie may be reunited.
It is pointed out that both are experiencing the pain of being separated from one another, not just across the world, but also across the expanse of time.
The report also states that both will try to move on and live a life without the other.
It is said that Claire has difficulty adjusting as she goes back to her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies). Meanwhile, Jamie will be spending time in a cave, trying to hide from the authorities.
The third season of "Outlander" is based on the novel "Voyager" by author Diana Gabaldon. If the series follows the events of the books, then it is possible that Jamie will have a child with another woman before he gets reunited with Claire. In the original books, Jamie eventually surrendered and was imprisoned in Ardsmuir where he met and befriend Lord John Grey (David Berry).
With Lord Grey's help, Jamie was granted parole and was later sent to Helwater where he would serve the rest of his sentence working for Lord William Dunsany. It was during this time he met Dunsany's young daughter, Geneva.
Although Geneva was set to marry someone else, she and Jamie managed to share an intimate moment together and Geneva gave birth to his son, William Ransom.
Although the Dunsany family and William have not been cast yet, reports say that they are likely to be featured on the show soon, given that season 3 is based on "Voyager" novel.
The third season of "Outlander" premieres in 2017.
