OnePlus Two release date not this month: What to expect

According to an interview involving smartphone startup disrupting company OnePlus' co-founder and CEO Carl Pei, OnePlus Two is going to be released during Q3, 2015 and not during the month of June.

Fans who were eager to witness the successor of one of the most popular handsets of 2014, will have to wait a little longer. According to Tech Radar, the CEO stated that the teaser image which featured the tagline 'Time to Change' will involve price cuts of OnePlus One and not the unveiling of OnePlus Two.

Additionally, Pei also mentioned that the upcoming handset will be referred to as 'OnePlus 2' and not OnePlus Two. There were earlier reports suggesting that apart from OnePlus 2, another smartphone was going to be released that would cater to a whole different audience altogether. Coming to the price cut details of OnePlus One, the following prices will be observed for the smartphone running Snapdragon 801 after June 1.

  • 16 GB Silk White version: $248
  • 64 GB Sandstone Black: $298

OnePlus will be looking to rake in as many sales as possible before Carl Pei gets on stage and showcases the prowess of OnePlus 2. Qualcomm managed to alleviate the overheating and thermal throttling issues with v1.3 of its Snapdragon 810 SoC, which is the same version that is present in Xiaomi's Mi Note Pro. With these new changes, the chipset delivers far better performance and thermal readings compared to those versions present in smartphones such as HTC's One M9 and LG's G Flex 2.

With downclocking and temperature spiking severely reduced, the chipset is able to obtain a far better score in benchmarking results, meaning that this is the particular version that OnePlus will be looking to incorporate in its upcoming flagship smartphone. Other specifications might also include a fingerprint scanner, 2K display and a much larger battery pack compared to OnePlus.
