NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti release date, specs, rumors: New GTX card set for early 2017 release?

According to supposed leaks, Nvidia will be coming out with a step-up version of its latest top-tier GTX 10 series iteration. Reports suggest that the GTX 1080 Ti will come out early next year.

In a side-by-side comparison, WCCFTech manages to place the upcoming GPU as a cut-down version of the top-tier Titan X Pascal card. However, even as an in-between for the GTX 1080 and the premium GTX card, the new GTX 1080 Ti still has decent specs and will most likely appeal to graphics enthusiasts. It is expected that even if its specs manages to catch on to the premium Titan X Pascal, it will be priced accordingly, just above the GTX 1080.

In its listed specs, the GTX 1080 Ti has cut down on its multiprocessor units, only listing 52 streams compared with the Titan X's 56 units. In terms of CUDA cores, the upcoming GPU also manages to catch up, listing 3,328 as opposed to the 3,584 CUDA cores for the Titan X Pascal. As a step-up GTX though, the new 1080 Ti considerably adds CUDA cores, as opposed to the base model GTX 1080's 2,560 cores.

However, even with cut-down specs, the upcoming GTX 1080 Ti still manages to outpace the more premium Titan X Pascal. In its leaked specs, it is revealed that the upcoming GPU has a base clock speed of 1,503 MHz, which is more than the Titan X's base clock speed of 1,417 MHz. Overclocking both GPUs also shows the new GTX 1080 Ti on top, with OC speed of 1,623 MHz compared with the overclocked speed of 1,531 MHz for the Titan X.

As to when fans can expect the new card, NVIDIA may be scheduling an early 2017 release for the GPU, since the specs and performance levels for the GTX 1080 Ti have already been leaked. This dovetails with the timeline for the GTX lineup, as NVIDIA is also thinking of adding another entry-level card in the series, the GTX 1050, later this year.
