Nexus 7: Google retires the Nexus 7 for Nexus 9

Despite a credible standing in the tablet segment, Google has officially pulled the Nexus 7 from the market. The 7-inch affordable tablet is no longer available from the Google Store and users may have to consider the Google Nexus 9 instead.

The Google Nexus 7 tablet made its way into the market in 2013 and was one of the affordable and best tablets running on Android OS consumers could get.

It seems that with the discontinuance of the Google Nexus 7, all eyes and focus will now be on the Google Nexus 9. That and of course the possibility of a new variant makes the Nexus 7 dispensable at this point. Google will be holding their annual I/O conference next month so it should be interesting if the company would indeed be revealing a new device.

Regardless, there are still a lot of people who may get their hands of the Nexus 7. There are some online sites like Flipkart. As far as the pricing point is concerned, don't be surprised if it comes at a slightly higher selling price since stocks will certainly be limited and surely hard to come by.

The stoppage of the Nexus 7 thus follows previous tablets that were retired. That included the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 10 which got the boot just last month.

Nexus sales haven't exactly been fantastic, seen as one of the reasons why Google is trying to whittle down their product roster. Hence, the Google Nexus 9 is seen as the new device likely to be boosted.

In the event that the Google Nexus 9 falters, there is a chance that the company may revisit its smaller and more affordable device in the future.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Google Nexus 7, the said tablet comes with features that include a 7-inch display (1920x1200 pixels), powered by a Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, includes a 5MP main camera and 1.2MP secondary camera. A 3,950 mAh battery provides the necessary juice to make it tick. It ran on the Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

Prior to its discontinuance, the Google Nexus 7 was being sold starting at $349.
