After being in hiatus for almost two years, Harmonix finally released another new DLC for "Rock Band 3" this year, igniting rumors that the franchise may soon return with a new installment.
The newest expansion pack for the music video game released on Feb. 17 features two new songs with titles that might be hinting on a new development for the franchise. One of them is Tenacious D's "Rise of The Fenix" and the other one is "Back to the Shack" by Weezer.
Early this year, Harmonix also released three new song titles for "Rock Band 3" as its first DLC in almost two years. The songs include "R U Mine?" by the Arctic Monkeys, "Shepherd of Fire" by Avenged Sevenfold, as well as "Something From Nothing" by Foo Fighters.
The game developer also released an "important" survey last month, asking gamers about the amount of time that they play the game, the number of DLC tracks that they own, as well as several questions that could help determine the game's possible future.
Fans of the game shared their speculations about the future of the franchise based on the new titles in its community forum, but Harmonix marketing manager Aaron Trites only stated that "they are awesome songs with great titles."
Harmonix used to support "Rock Band 3" with weekly DLCs from the time it was released in October 2010 until April 2013, aiming to launch more than 3,500 songs for that particular installment. But the game developer stopped releasing the expansion packs all of a sudden.
All songs from the January and the recent DLC releases are worth $1.99 (U.S.), £.99 (U.K.), €1.49 (Europe) for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.
The possibility of having another update for the "Rock Band" franchise or even a "Rock Band 4" release this year is still unannounced by the game developer, but fans are keeping their fingers crossed.
