New Microsoft Surface tablet releasing without RT branding

In addition to releasing the successor of the Surface Pro 3, dubbed the Surface Pro 4, software giant Microsoft also plans on releasing the successor of the Surface 2 with a brand new tablet that will not be bearing the RT branding. According to WinBeta, the upcoming slate will naturally surpass the capabilities of the Surface 2 and will be including a fanless design.

The incorporation of a fanless design means that the tablet will sport a thin form factor but will feature low performance specifications that will remain in their temperature limits. While the website has not confirmed which processor is going to be fitted in to the product, it is possible that either Intel's Atom or Core-M based CPU will be present. Since the tablet will not be possessing the brand name RT, it will be running the full version of Windows, which is terrific news for consumers.

The official release date of the product has not been stated, so it is possible that the slate will be showcased before the official announcement of Microsoft's Windows 10, which is said to be unveiled during Q3, 2015. If that release timeline happens to be true, then it will be running Windows 8.1 'out of the box'. However, one of the perks of owning the affordable tablet will be that it will be upgradeable to the Windows 10 platform, which is set to run on the company's Surface Pro 4.

With Windows RT officially established as an unpopular operating system, Microsoft will be looking to make amends in its upcoming offering (Windows 10), which will feature a unified interface coupled with the company's next generation API, DirectX 12. If the tablet holds its own against the Surface Pro 3, then Microsoft will be able to strike hard and fast in the tablet market, and will be effectively catering to those who require a budget solution for a laptop substitute.
