NBA 2015 news: Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis re-signs to their clubs

The San Antonio Spurs wasted no time in re-signing Kawhi Leonard while the New Orleans Pelicans did the same with Anthony Davis right at the start of NBA Free Agency.

Leonard and Davis have each signed lucrative five-year deals which should keep them in their respective teams for at least the next four NBA seasons.

Leonard's signing was not a surprise. San Antonio already made known its plans earlier in the previous season. All was made official when the small forward was offered a five-year contract reportedly in excess of $90 million.

For its part, New Orleans offered Davis a lucrative maximum contract worth $145 million, including a player option after the fourth year. This means Davis, who plays power forward and center, will only be a free agent in 2020 and could get another lucrative offer by then since he will only be 27.

Leonard has proven his worth and place in San Antonio, though there are minor kinks to ironed out in the deal between the player and his team. Thesekinks are not expected to be major stumbling blocks.

"I have every intention of signing with the San Antonio Spurs," Leonard said in a statement which Yahoo Sports carried. "There are details in the contract which need to be worked out with the organization. I am confident that this will be accomplished."

Leonard made his mark in the 2014 NBA Finals, which the Spurs won. He was adjudged the Finals MVP. Another milestone that year was Leonard being named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Leonard was drafted 17th overall in 2011 and was obtained by the Spurs in a trade with the Indiana Pacers.
