The next arc in "Boruto" will show the series' own take on the chuunin exams, which was the central plot in "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" in 2015 — but with a huge twist.

The latest development in the sequel to Masashi Kishimoto's worldwide phenomenon "Naruto" saw the titular character and his friends recently graduating from the ninja academy and being inducted as full-fledged ninjas or genin.

As many Naruto fans know, the next career step for genin is to become chuunin, attained by completing a series of missions and passing several tests of intelligence and skill to prove that one is truly worthy of the rank.

During the events of the first "Boruto" movie, Naruto's busy life makes him struggle to maintain a balance between his responsibilities as hokage and as a father which puts a strain on his relationship with his son. Boruto, believing that showcasing his strength would make Naruto pay more attention to him, attempts to cheat his way through the exams by using forbidden ninja technology knowing that his father himself had banned the use of such equipment. This was so that the chuunin exam's purpose of nurturing the innate talents of a ninja would be preserved.

Boruto was eventually caught in the act by Naruto during a match and was immediately ordered to be removed from the exams. The events after this then led to the Ootsutsuki brothers' ambush, where they kidnap Naruto, leaving Boruto and the others to rescue the seventh hokage.

The movie introduces two new villains, Kinshiki and Momoshiki, who are believed to have come from the same clan as Kaguya Ootsutsuki, the chief antagonist of the first series who was sealed away by Naruto and Sasuke.

For the series adaptation, however, another brand new villain will be introduced. Kishimoto recently uploaded sketches of the new character named Urashiki Ootsutsuki. His addition to the story would definitely shake things up as fans will now wonder how a new character would fit into a story arc that they have already seen.

Urashiki will make his television debut next spring.
